Staffed by a caring and experienced team, the Thornbury Radiosurgery Centre (TRC) is housed within Circle Thornbury Hospital in Fulwood, Sheffield and has been delivering Consultant-lead gamma knife stereotactic radiosurgery treatments for 15 years, undertaking the treatment of over 3,000 patients.
As the first city in the UK to clinically start using gamma knife treatment, Sheffield has a group of talented Consultant Neurosurgeons that are very experienced in this area, several of which work within Thornbury Hospital with the TRC team. We undertake treatment of private and NHS patients, and through the NHS we form part of the National Health Service England Stereotactic Radiosurgery Supracentre for the North of England, which allows us to work in close partnership with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
With many people keen to see our high-profile Specialist Consultants due to their extensive knowledge in the use of stereotactic treatment. To discuss treatment, the Consultants can offer outpatient appointments either in person, via telephone or Zoom/Teams to make the process as flexible and straightforward as possible. During the consultation, the viability of stereotactic radiosurgery will be discussed alongside any alternative treatments or approaches, ensuring you are well informed and can make the most suitable decision for you.

Our gamma knife treatments are done as day case procedures and friends and family can attend with you. Most treatments often only take a few hours, with you are able to leave the hospital only a short while after they’re complete. The treatments themselves are performed by a dedicated team of professionals, made up of Consultant Neurosurgeons, Radiographers, Medical Physicists and HCAs, all of which are committed to providing you with the unsurpassed care and a paramount experience during your stay.
Follow up appointments and scans can either be conducted through Thornbury Hospital, or done closer to home, guaranteeing you the most suitable approach for yourselves. Our Consultants can then be involved in any correspondence of your continued care and be on hand to review any follow up investigations that may be needed.
